150 BREN Black Cottonwoods Find a Home at Hyatt Hidden Lakes Reserve and Harris Ranch.BREN donated 50 black cottonwood trees to the City of Boise and 100 to the Harris Ranch Wildlife Mitigation Association through our Black Cottonwood Gather and Grow project. These cottonwoods were germinated in the summer of 2024 by the Idaho Conservation Corps (ICC) and HP Volunteers. They were potted from the germination trays into deep pots by ICC and Girl Scout Troop #37 later that fall. These found a permanent home at Hyatt Hidden Lakes Reserve and along the river at Harris Ranch and we look forward to watching them grow. The goal of BREN’s Black Cottonwood Gather and Grow project is to increase the genetic diversity of the tree canopy. Many of the cottonwood you see along the river are reaching the end of their lifespan or have grown as a runner from a parent tree and are genetically the same. Genetic diversity helps forests to survive things like disease and climate change. |

The Boise River Enhancement Plan was developed by BREN through extensive literature review. It is our primary tool we use to guide and priortize projects. It is a community-generated, informative, forward-looking Plan to improve water quality, aquatic and riparian habitat and stream channel function from Lucky Peak Dam to the Snake River. It’s a bird’s eye view of the current health of the river and a proposal to work cooperatively to enhance the ecosystem. You can read the plan at our website here. BREN’s Annual Report can be found on our website here. Read about some of the projects BREN worked on in 2024 and see how we are using your donation dollars to support a happy, healthy Boise River. Thank you to all of our sponsors for your support! |
