SUMMARY:Boise River Mercury and Crayfish Research Project
DESCRIPTION:BREN will be assisting the University of Idaho in a Boise River water quality research project in 2021. The project engages citizens in a mercury monitoring program. The tissues of crayfish captured by BREN volunteers in the Boise River will be examined by the researchers. The overall aim is to use these charismatic invertebrates to engage with local community members regarding a serious environmental health concern. Alan S. Kolok\, Director Idaho Water Resources Research Institute\, will explain the project and answer questions. \nDr. Alan Kolok is a life-long academic scientist\, Alan served as the Founding Director of the Nebraska Watershed Network in Omaha\, Nebraska and as Director of the Center for Environmental Health and Toxicology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
